Pushing Daisies

When William was a boy his father pulled a pretty penny from his ear
Told his son that coppers nice, but you gotta fight to make some silver appear
And while his mother made more brothers, and his brothers made new mothers
William took a job with Uncle Sam for the summer
Said he found a silver bullet to put an end to their family strife
And so he lit fires, and fires, and fires straight down through Raleigh
Till the war went(C repeat changes) away
They still burn today
Whose blood have we built on to finance our fantasies?
Whose dreams have been pillaged to feed our favorite sons?
And why can’t our elders feel the breath of the dead pushing daisies
Through our floorboards
Ever slowly, ever slowly
They say that William freed a thousand suffered souls when he marched to the sea
But he chose to pack his bags when Uncle Sam cut down his money tree
And while his men fled to west, craving new conquest, searching for a new shot at glory
Those who broke their chains were left to fight for their shot at a story
And so they toiled, and toiled, and toiled, and toiled away
While w e looked the other way
And they toil to this day
Their blood has been built on to finance our fantasies
Their dreams have been pillaged to feed our favorite sons
No wonder our elders ignore the breath of the dead pushing daisies
Through our floorboards
Ever slowly, ever slowly
We remember the men who were willing to win at all costs
We carve them in stone to remember their face once they’re lost
But now that they topple down, cracking on the ground, fallen at the hands of the forgotten
We can all feel the breath of these men
Pushing daisies
Like the rest of us
Ever slowly
Ever slowly

Second Chances
05:21
|
|||
Lost in a highway daze
Speeding to the soundtrack of our middle-aged malaise
High on loose packed cigarettes and petroleum fumes
The smell of sour whiskey makes a deadly perfume
And I might just let you take a whiff of it anyway
Yeah, I think that poison just might be here to stay
It was a midnight masquerade
We were unmasked by the moonlight and I didn't even hesitate
Chose the purest of souls, drenched in wedding white
Selfishly stole it for my devilish delights
And when the sun came up these sins were greeted with gratitude
You left me all this time, and I was starving for gratitude
So these are no circumstances to demand second chances
You were laughing while our love bled out
You made a hole in my rib cage
Put my heart on the front page
Just to watch the vultures tear it out
Oh and you let those vultures tear it out
And you never had a second doubt
They say that love will set you free
But then why does that devil keep dangling those keys in front of me
Steel walls echo with those 22 blanks
Bouncing through my cell just like that cold thanks
You shoot to kill all my empty apologies
Oh fuck this sea of empty apologies
And now I'm just like you
A cup of revenge capped with spite makes dangerous brew
So I'll let you run your mouth again and try to gaslight
Those crocodile tears will die by my snakebite
Your phantom of an ego could never handle the truth
Oh you created a monster, but at least I could tell you the truth
That these are no circumstances to demand second chances
You were laughing while our love bled out
You made a hole in my rib cage
Put my heart on the front page
Just to watch the vultures tear it out
Oh and you let those vultures tear it out
And you never had a second doubt
We're dying and I know you see
Oh I was blind but you made me see
I'm done being your rock so your could grind that axe
I'm done being a lab rat for your traps
Now I'm the one testing a new way of getting through
And for once the sad soul who will be the control is you
Oh these are no circumstances to demand second chances
Now who's laughing while they make their way out
You made a hole in my rib cage
My heart strengthened with old age
And I wouldn't let you tear it out
Oh I wouldn't let you tear it out
Yeah I'm laughing as you figure it out
Oh I'll never have a second doubt
They say that love will set you free
So good luck trying to make your escape without me

Eden
03:42
|
|||
Oh I know now we're on our way
To where our father had once settled his score
And though that garden's long been locked away
We heard that angels had once opened that door
In the heat of summer
Magnolias fell upon lost lovers
Steeped in sin and shameful slumbers
The willows wept while they watched us burn
In the heat of summer
Dogwoods cackled as they claimed another
Star-crossed lover with a shameful hunger
They strung us up just to watch us burn
Oh I know now we're on our way
To where our fathers once had settled their score
And though the goalposts they may have changed
Those fields sleep silent as they did before
In the heat of summer
Worlds apart from their lonely mothers
Boys played war to show each other
Whose blood could keep the rivers running full
In the heat of summer
Worlds apart from those ancient wonders
Mad men built cheap Parthenons
To prey on those who kept their bellies full
And now those preachers are surprised that we would mind when their feckless faith had faltered
They're frightened that their flock is growing weary of their windowless rooms
The final play of their crusade is force our memories to fade, and keep us blinded to our crime, blinded to our crime, blinded
All of this time, all of this time
To the beauty that we left behind
Oh I know now we're on our way
To where our devils dance and god once would
But whose fault should that be anyway
When only demons ever understood
(When no one listened but our demons would)
Oh a clap of thunder
Were those gunshots or almighty thunder
Was Eden burned for g reed and plunder
Will we ever grow it back again
With a clap of thunder
We asked the rain to wash away our blunders
But when it showed us our true colors
We let our brothers drown again
Was it truly a surprise when god's children, fed with lies, tried to swim into the mouth of Gibraltar,
He should have always known that we'd grow weary of our windowless rooms
Did he take pleasure in our plight, send down a bolt of spite to keep us blinded to our crime, blinded to our crime, blinded
All of this time, all of this time
To the beauty that we left behind
Oh I know now we're on our way
But our apples have been rotting to the core
And if we let our last last few die today
Will our children ever make it through that door?

Revival
03:39
|
|||
We got a sickness made of silence that's been spreading all around us
And there's no comfort in our crying, because our crying is no cure
There's no beauty in the bullets that make the lining of our streets
There's no prayers left for the fallen who were sacrificed for "peace"
So now we're praying for revival because we've got to earn our keep
The souls of those whose taught us are uneasy in their sleep
We're praying for revival of the spirit that's grown weak
We're praying for revival and there's no patience... left for peace
We got a fire that's been burning long before we started nursing
The smoke had choked our mothers while we struggled in the womb
And our fathers who cried out had young with ashes left to guide them
Left with blood-worn boots their tiny feet were never meant to fill
So now we're praying for revival with only nickles to our name
For those who came before us stripped their young of any claim
We're praying for revival because they profit off the broken
We're praying for revival of our living... that's been stolen
We've got a country where the ghosts are living lively all among us
The lip service of our leaders feeds their families every day
And these ghosts will haunt us since they know our hell is overflowing
Cuz they're scared that those same fires that shaped the best of us today
So now we're praying for revival because our enemy is weak
The fear that fed their anger will soon strangle their mystique
We're praying for revival and nowt time is on our side
We're praying for revival and we will not... be denied
So now we're praying for revival because our enemy is weak
The blood that's shared among us beats too strong to keep us meek
We're praying for revival cuz now time is on our side
We're praying for revival and we will not... be denied
So now we're praying for revival because our enemy is weak
The fear that fed their anger will soon strangle their mystique
We're praying for revival cuz now time is on our side
We're praying for revival and we will not be denied
Yeah we're praying for revival because our enemy is weak
The blood that's shared among us beats too strong to us meek
Yeah we're praying for revival cuz now time is on our side
We're praying for revival and we will not be denied

See You Tomorrow
02:40
|
|||
See you tomorrow my dear
There's not much left for me here
I might just roll on through
With that picture of you
Might just disappear
Far away from here
Far away from here
Oh I'm trying
I'm trying not to disappear
Is there something left for me here?
Don't wanna disappear
